CINCINNATI, OH — Princeton took control in the second half Saturday night, pulling away from Oak Hills for a 49-22 victory at Xavier University’s Cintas Center to capture the Division I regional championship.
The Vikings opened the game with an 8-5 lead after the first quarter, with both teams struggling to find much offense early. Princeton’s defense set the tone, making it difficult for Oak Hills to establish any consistent rhythm.
Princeton extended its lead to 19-13 by halftime, taking a six-point advantage into the break.
The Vikings continued to create separation in the third quarter, outscoring Oak Hills 10-6 to take a 29-19 lead into the final eight minutes.
Princeton then put the game away in the fourth quarter.
The Vikings erupted for 20 points in the final period while holding Oak Hills to just three. Princeton’s defensive pressure also forced 18 turnovers throughout the regional final.
Amire Gill led Princeton in scoring with 13 points, providing the Vikings with a steady offensive presence as they built their lead.
The 49-22 victory sent Princeton to the Division I state semifinals, while Oak Hills’ postseason run came to an end. The Highlanders finished the season 18-8, while Princeton improved to 23-3.
Princeton moves on to face St. Edward in the state semifinals next week at Wright State University’s Nutter Center.
