NEW MADISON, OH — Tri-Village opened its home schedule in dominant fashion Friday night, cruising past National Trail 38-7 at Tri-Village High School.
The Patriots came out firing, putting together a 17-point first quarter to take control early.
Staley Colston opened the scoring with a 56-yard touchdown run, breaking free and giving Tri-Village a 7-0 lead. Shortly after, Owen Ridout made history, drilling a 45-yard field goal to set a new Tri-Village school record and extend the Patriots’ lead to 10-0.
Tri-Village continued its strong start when Colt Camacho found the end zone on a 13-yard touchdown run, making it 17-0 before the end of the opening quarter.
The Patriots continued to pull away in the second quarter.
Colston scored his second touchdown of the night on a 10-yard run, putting Tri-Village ahead 24-0. Later in the quarter, Kingston Shafer found the end zone on a 27-yard touchdown reception from Brecken Gray. Ridout’s extra point made it 31-0 heading into halftime.
Colston was a major factor throughout the night, carrying the ball 15 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 13.5 yards per carry and recorded a long run of 56 yards.
Camacho added his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter, scoring on an 18-yard run to push the Patriots’ lead to 38-0.
National Trail got on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when Jonah Brinkley broke loose for a 42-yard touchdown run, putting the Blazers on the board at 38-7.
Brinkley finished with 59 rushing yards and a touchdown on 10 carries, while also leading National Trail defensively with 12 total tackles, a sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Tri-Village’s defense kept National Trail’s offense in check throughout the night, recording five tackles for loss and one sack as a team. Caleb Miller led the Patriots with 10 tackles, while Camacho and Kole Hiestand each recorded eight.
The Patriots rotated quarterbacks throughout the night, with Cole Swafford completing 5 of 9 passes for 38 yards and adding 19 rushing yards, while Brecken Gray completed 5 of 6 passes for 34 yards and a touchdown while adding nine rushing yards.
Shafer led Tri-Village’s receiving corps, finishing with five receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. Aaron Bruner added four receptions for 12 yards, while Staley Colston and Hayden Hunt each recorded a reception.
Ridout’s record-setting kick was just part of an impressive night on special teams. He finished 1-for-1 on field goals, converting all five extra-point attempts for eight points, while averaging 39.3 yards on three punts.
Tri-Village scored five touchdowns on the night, including four rushing touchdowns, while building a 38-0 lead before National Trail’s late fourth-quarter score.
With the victory, the Patriots improve to 2-0 on the season, while National Trail falls to 1-1.
